Contribution Basis only
by man in black in.
.
excuse my lack of computer/searching skills here, but i have been doing a search for the reason that the literature is now offered on a contribution basis only.. i remember back in the late 80's or early 90's when the announcement was made from the platform stating that we were on longer to put a price on the magazines / books,,,, just ask for a contribution.. somewhere i remember reading on this site that there was a underlying legal reason this was done, when it was announced.. everyone was either saying that this was a "speeding up" of the work, or the usual "the end must be right around the corner" routine.. i really appreciate any comments .

The truth about the donation arrangement
by Wolfgirl ini never knew this...just found it today.
made me giggle.. payment of sales tax on literatureon 17 january1990 the u.s. supreme court made a ruling that sales tax must be paid on religious literature.
the following month, a letter from the watchtower society went out to all congregations stating that there would no longer be a set price for literature but that they would be given to the public on a donation basis.

" i was out in the world and belive me!! Its a terrible place! We are so blessed to be in the truth!"
by highdose inthis is an assertion leveled at me recently.
the speaker has the advantage over me in that i was born and bred in the borg and have only recently jumped ship.. what, can i ask would your responce be to this?.

Ask him/her what their experience was. No doubt it was “terrible” because they made poor decisions.
Life outside the Borg is what you make it. Live responsibly and things go well for you. Make bad decisions and things will go wrong. Instead, a person needs to take responsibility for how they live, not blame others (or, “the world”) for what happens.

I am exhusted 24/7 by the heat!
by highdose ini'm sorry time for a moan.
cyprus is having a mini heat wave.
over the past week the goverment has issued a health warning to keep out of the sun and not to do any strenuous work.. the humidity factor has been 70-80 % and the wind speed only 6km.

I just watched a German news report which showed that Moscow is not only suffering from 40C/100F heatwaves, but they have forest fires that are causing very bad pollution so the residents are being told to keep their doors and windows shut!
I live in Australia so I can relate to the heatwave conditions. We’ll be suffering 6 months from now.

As a Woman Have your Attitudes Towards Men Changed After Exiting JW's ?
by flipper inbeing raised in the jehovah's witnesses cult from birth - i saw many females mistreated, abused in a demeaning manner whether subtly or right out in the open.
before congregation meetings in the 1960's even as a boy i saw an elder talk rudely to his wife as if she was a child- and the wife put her head down in sadness.
i saw jw men take themselves way too seriously as alleged " heads of their house " - because the wt society pushed the headship issue into every witness marriage.

I had the same experience as LHG. I was a single gal with no family support so I had to work full-time to support myself. There were a couple of single women who were pioneers in my cong but they came across as needy, codependant girls who accepted living in poverty in order to pioneer. I have never been materialistic, but I was realistic, and there was no way I was prepared to be like them.
As far as men went, yes, I was brought up with the idea that all non-JW men were lustful beasts who wanted to get into your pants the first minute they could. I wish, haha!
No, I enjoy the company of all men, and have found non-JW men to be far more respectful and considerate of women compared to JW men.
